More Than Just Storage — Portable Buildings for Every Need
Here’s what most people don’t realize about portable buildings: the word “storage” barely scratches the surface.
Sure, a good chunk of our customers start by looking for a place to store lawn equipment or holiday decorations. Nothing wrong with that. But the conversation usually shifts fast. Because once you see a 14×32 building with insulated walls, electrical hookups, and a finished interior — you stop thinking about storing your lawnmower and start thinking about what you could actually do with that space.
We’ve had customers turn portable buildings into full home offices with standing desks and dual monitors. We’ve seen she-sheds with shiplap walls and string lights that look like something off HGTV. One guy in Stillwater turned a 12×24 into a podcast studio. A church near Muskogee uses one of our buildings as a youth classroom. A tattoo artist in Lawton set up shop in a 14×28 with a custom interior.
And here’s why that’s happening more and more: Oklahoma’s remote work population has exploded. After 2020, a whole lot of people realized they could do their jobs from home — but “home” doesn’t always have a spare room. Building a room addition costs $30,000 to $80,000 and takes months. A portable building with a finished interior? You’re looking at a fraction of that cost, delivered to your property in weeks instead of months.
That’s the real story of portable buildings in Oklahoma right now. They’re not just sheds with a nicer name. They’re flexible, affordable spaces that solve real problems for real people.
Portable Building Types
Not every portable building is the same, and they shouldn’t be. What you need out of a backyard office is completely different from what you need out of a ranch workshop. Here’s a breakdown of the main types we sell and what makes each one different.
Portable Offices & Home Offices
This is our fastest-growing category, and it’s not even close. Remote workers, freelancers, small business owners, realtors, insurance agents — people who need a dedicated workspace that’s separate from the main house.
Our portable offices come in sizes from 10×12 all the way up to 16×40. Smaller units work great as a simple one-person office. The bigger models give you room for a waiting area, separate desk setups, or even a small conference space. We offer finished interiors with drywall or wood paneling, insulation packages for year-round use, electrical prep so your electrician can wire it quickly, and HVAC-ready configurations with mini-split rough-ins.
You can go from “I need a home office” to sitting at your desk in a climate-controlled building in your backyard within two to three weeks. Try getting a contractor to even return your call in that time.
Portable Cabins
Oklahoma has more shoreline than the Atlantic and Gulf coasts combined. That’s not a made-up stat. And a whole lot of that shoreline is dotted with lake properties, hunting land, and weekend getaway spots that need a cabin — just not a $150,000 cabin.
Our portable cabins range from simple shell units you can finish out yourself to fully finished models with insulated walls, ceiling, and floor, plus pre-wired electrical and plumbing rough-ins. Popular sizes include 12×24, 14×28, and 16×32. Some folks use them as primary lake cabins. Others put them on hunting property as a warm, dry place to sleep during deer season instead of freezing in a tent.
Workshops & Hobby Buildings
Woodworkers, mechanics, welders, crafters, small-engine repair — we sell a lot of buildings to people who need a dedicated workspace with room to actually work. Our workshop models feature reinforced flooring for heavy equipment, wider door options (including double doors and roll-up doors), and electrical prep for 220V service if you’re running power tools or welders.
Sizes from 12×16 for a basic hobby shop up to 16×40 or larger for serious production work. Add a workbench along the wall, pegboard for tool storage, and an overhead light circuit and you’ve got a shop most people would be jealous of.
She-Sheds & Man Caves
This one always makes people smile, but we’re dead serious about it. Everybody deserves a space that’s just theirs. She-sheds have turned into a real movement — a private retreat in the backyard where you can read, paint, do yoga, craft, or just sit in the quiet without anyone asking you for something.
Man caves work the same way. Big screen, mini fridge, some comfortable chairs, maybe a dart board on the wall. These buildings get finished interiors, insulation, electrical, and climate control so they’re comfortable twelve months a year.
We build these in every size from 10×12 to 14×32. The interior finish is where the magic happens — and you’ve got real options there, which we break down in the finish comparison section below.
Portable Classrooms
Churches, private schools, daycares, and nonprofits across Oklahoma use our portable buildings as classroom space. It’s a practical solution when you need more room but you’re not ready to fund a full building expansion.
Our classroom models can be configured with multiple windows for natural light, insulation and HVAC prep for student comfort, commercial-grade flooring, and ADA-compliant ramp access. We’ve placed classroom buildings in communities from Ada to Yukon.
Large Portable Storage (16×40+)
Some jobs just need raw square footage. Contractors storing equipment. Farmers keeping feed and tack dry. Business owners who need overflow inventory space but aren’t ready to lease a warehouse.
Our large portable storage buildings go up to 16×40 and beyond with custom options. Heavy-duty floor systems handle weight. Metal or LP SmartSide exteriors stand up to Oklahoma weather. And because they’re portable, you don’t need a permanent foundation — which means less permitting hassle in most Oklahoma counties.
What Size Portable Building Do You Need?
This is the question we hear more than any other. The answer depends entirely on what you’re planning to do with the building. Here’s a quick guide based on the most common use cases we see across Oklahoma.
| Use Case | Recommended Size | Sq Ft | Starting Price | Key Features |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic storage | 10×12 to 10×16 | 120-160 | $3,500-$5,000 | Standard door, window, treated floor |
| Home office (1 person) | 12×16 to 12×24 | 192-288 | $6,000-$10,000 | Insulation, electrical, HVAC rough-in |
| Home office (2+ people) | 14×28 to 16×32 | 392-512 | $12,000-$18,000 | Multiple outlets, finished walls, HVAC |
| Workshop / hobby shop | 12×24 to 16×40 | 288-640 | $7,000-$18,000 | Wide doors, 220V prep, reinforced floor |
| Cabin (lake / hunting) | 14×28 to 16×32 | 392-512 | $12,000-$22,000 | Full interior finish, plumbing rough-in |
| She-shed / man cave | 10×12 to 14×32 | 120-448 | $5,000-$16,000 | Finished interior, HVAC, custom finishes |
| Classroom / church space | 14×28 to 16×40 | 392-640 | $10,000-$22,000 | ADA ramp, multiple windows, commercial floor |
| Large equipment storage | 16×32 to 16×40 | 512-640 | $12,000-$20,000 | Roll-up door, heavy-duty floor, metal exterior |
These prices are starting points for each configuration. Your exact quote depends on the features, finish level, and any upgrades you choose. The good news is there’s almost always a way to get what you need within budget — especially with our rent-to-own program.
Interior Finish Options
If you’re using your portable building as a workspace, retreat, or cabin, the interior finish makes all the difference. You’ll spend time in this space every day, so it’s worth picking the right look and feel. Here’s how the four main options compare.
Painted Drywall — This is the most popular choice for offices and classrooms. It looks clean and professional, it’s easy to hang shelves or artwork, and you can repaint it any color down the road. Drywall gives you a finished feel that’s familiar, like any room in your house. It’s the most affordable interior finish option, and for most office and studio use cases, it’s the right call.
Tongue-and-Groove Pine — If you want warmth and character, this is the direction to go. Tongue-and-groove pine gives you a cabin feel that works beautifully in lake houses, hunting cabins, and she-sheds. The natural wood grain looks great without any stain at all, or you can seal it in a clear coat for a richer tone. It costs a bit more than drywall but the look is hard to beat. Popular with customers who want their portable building to feel less like an office and more like a retreat.
Shiplap — The HGTV effect is real. Shiplap gives you that modern farmhouse look with clean horizontal lines and subtle shadow gaps between the boards. You can paint it white for the classic look or leave it natural. It runs slightly more than tongue-and-groove but the aesthetic hits different. She-sheds, studios, and boutique retail spaces are where we see shiplap most often.
Vinyl Plank Flooring — This isn’t a wall finish, but it’s the upgrade that changes how the whole building feels underfoot. Standard portable building flooring is painted plywood or OSB. Vinyl plank gives you the look of hardwood with waterproof durability that handles Oklahoma mud, dog paws, and spilled coffee without a scratch. We install it over the subfloor and it’s ready to go on delivery day. It’s the single most popular upgrade for any building that gets daily use.
Why Oklahoma Homeowners Love Portable Buildings
People ask us all the time why portable buildings have gotten so popular in the last few years. Honestly? It’s because they solve a whole list of problems that traditional construction can’t.
No foundation required in most cases. A level gravel pad or concrete blocks are all you typically need. That alone saves thousands of dollars compared to pouring a slab.
Delivered complete and ready to use. We build your portable building at our facility, load it on a trailer, and set it on your property. You don’t have weeks of construction noise, subcontractors, and mess in your yard. It shows up done.
Rent-to-own makes it affordable. Not everybody has $8,000 or $15,000 sitting in a savings account. Our rent-to-own program lets you get the building now and pay it off over time with no credit check. You own it free and clear when you’re done.
Add space without a home addition. Room additions are expensive, disruptive, and take forever. A portable building gives you the extra square footage without tearing into your house.
Relocatable if you move. This is huge. If you sell your property or need to relocate, a portable building goes with you. Try doing that with a room addition or a poured-slab garage. You can’t.
Built for Oklahoma weather. We know what Oklahoma throws at buildings. Our portable structures are engineered to handle the wind, the heat, the ice, and everything in between. Treated floor joists. Heavy-gauge roofing. Wind-rated anchoring systems.
Faster than traditional construction. From the day you order to the day it’s sitting on your property, you’re typically looking at one to three weeks for in-stock models. A custom build might take four to six weeks. Either way, you’re not waiting months.
That combination — affordable, fast, flexible, and built to last — is why portable buildings have become one of the most popular property upgrades in Oklahoma.

Portable Building vs Room Addition
This is the comparison that sells itself. When people start pricing out a room addition to their house, the sticker shock usually sends them looking for alternatives. Here’s how a portable building stacks up against a traditional room addition for roughly 200 square feet of usable space.
| Factor | Portable Building | Room Addition |
|---|---|---|
| Cost (200 sq ft) | $6,000-$12,000 | $30,000-$80,000 |
| Timeline | 1-6 weeks | 3-6 months |
| Permit required? | Usually no (under 200 sq ft in most OK counties) | Yes, always |
| Relocatable? | Yes — take it with you if you move | No |
| Disruption to your home | None — built off-site, delivered complete | Significant — construction crew in your house for months |
The math is hard to argue with. For the cost of one room addition, you could buy two or three fully finished portable buildings. And if you ever sell the property, the portable building comes with you. The room addition stays behind.
That said, a room addition does increase your home’s appraised value more directly. A portable building adds functional value to your property but won’t always show up in a home appraisal the same way. For most of our customers, the cost savings and flexibility more than make up for that difference.

Delivery & Setup
Getting a portable building to your property is easier than most people think. Here’s how it works.
Step 1: Site prep. You’ll want a level area for the building to sit. A gravel pad works great and helps with drainage. We can advise you on site prep during the quote process so there are no surprises on delivery day.
Step 2: Scheduling. Once your building is ready (in-stock units can deliver within days; custom builds typically take three to six weeks), we schedule a delivery window that works for your schedule.
Step 3: Delivery. Our delivery team brings the building to your property on a specialized trailer. We need a clear path at least two feet wider than the building on each side. Trees, fences, power lines, and gate widths are the main things to double-check. Our team will walk through access with you ahead of time.
Step 4: Placement and leveling. The crew sets the building on your prepared pad, levels it with blocks or shims, and anchors it per manufacturer specs and local requirements. The whole process usually takes under an hour for standard-sized buildings.
Delivery is free to most locations across Oklahoma. If you’re in a remote area or more than 50 miles from one of our lots, there may be a small delivery fee — we’ll let you know up front. No hidden charges. We deliver to all 77 Oklahoma counties.
Portable Building FAQs
How much does a portable building cost?
Prices vary by size, style, and how you want the interior finished. A basic 10×12 storage building starts in the $3,500 to $4,500 range. Mid-size buildings like a 12×24 run around $6,000 to $10,000 depending on features. Large, fully finished buildings (16×40 with insulation, electrical, and interior walls) range from $18,000 to $28,000. Contact us for an exact quote on the size and features you need.
Can I use a portable building as an office?
It’s one of the most popular uses we see — and honestly, it’s changed the way a lot of Oklahoma families handle remote work. Add insulation, electrical, a mini-split HVAC unit, and a finished interior and you’ve got a fully functional home office. We have customers running businesses, doing remote corporate work, and hosting client meetings in portable building offices across the state. The separation from the main house makes a real difference in productivity and work-life balance.
Do portable buildings need a foundation?
Good question, and the answer saves you money. In most cases, a level gravel pad or a set of concrete pier blocks is all you need. That skips the $3,000 to $8,000 expense of pouring a concrete slab. Some municipalities or HOAs may have specific requirements, so we recommend checking with your local building department. Our team can help you figure out what’s needed for your property.
Are portable buildings insulated?
They can be, and if you’re planning to spend time in the building year-round, they should be. We offer insulation packages that cover walls, ceiling, and floor. Our standard wall insulation is R-13 fiberglass batt. Ceiling insulation is R-19. Floor insulation uses R-10 rigid foam. For Oklahoma’s climate — where you might see 105 degrees in July and single digits in January — that combination keeps the building comfortable through every season. We use standard fiberglass batt insulation in the walls and ceiling, with rigid foam available for the floor.
Can I add electricity to a portable building?
Yes. We offer electrical prep packages that include a panel box, outlet rough-ins, switch locations, and exterior light fixtures. A licensed electrician then connects the building to your home’s electrical panel or a new meter. This usually costs $500 to $1,500 for the electrician’s work depending on the distance from your power source. We can recommend electricians in your area if you need one.
What’s the largest portable building you offer?
Our standard catalog goes up to 16×40, which gives you 640 square feet of usable space. That’s bigger than a lot of studio apartments. For custom projects, we can go larger — talk to us about your specific needs and we’ll work out a solution. Buildings wider than 16 feet may require special delivery arrangements due to road width restrictions.
How does rent-to-own work?
Picture this: you pick out your building, put down a small deposit (typically one month’s payment), and start making monthly payments over 24, 36, 48, or 60 months. No credit check required. At the end of your term, you own the building outright. You can also pay it off early with no penalty. There’s no interest on rent-to-own — the total cost is set up front. It’s the most popular financing option we offer, and it makes a quality portable building accessible to just about anyone.
Can I move a portable building later?
That’s the whole point of “portable.” If you move to a new property, sell your land, or just want to reposition the building on your lot, it can be picked up and relocated. We offer relocation services, or you can hire a local building mover. Keep in mind that buildings with permanent electrical connections will need to be disconnected and reconnected by an electrician. But the building itself? It goes wherever you go.
